Most people imagine a money spell as something that piles money up: a jar that fills, a treasure that appears. The oldest money workings I know think about it very differently.
In the tradition I learned from, money is water. It is meant to move. When it stops moving, when it comes in slowly, leaves quickly, or gets stuck somewhere on the way to you, the problem is not that there is too little of it in the world. The problem is a blockage in the flow.
What a money spell works on
A money working is aimed at flow, not hoarding. It opens the channels through which money reaches you: the late payment, the approval, the forgotten refund, the unexpected work, the better offer.
This is why I tell people not to judge a money working by a single sum. Watch instead for movement: things that were stuck beginning to arrive.
The Open Purse
The working I use is called the Open Purse, and it comes from old Mediterranean cash-flow work.
A small cloth pouch is opened on the altar. Three coins go inside it, and each coin has a meaning: one for the money that comes, one for the money that stays, and one for the money that goes out and returns. Bay leaves and cinnamon sticks are laid over them: bay for what lasts, cinnamon for speed. Together they ask for money that arrives quickly and does not slip away.
Then the pouch is turned so that its open mouth faces the door, and a green candle is lit behind it.
The seal: the purse that is never tied
The pouch is never tied closed. That untied mouth is the seal of the working.
It can feel wrong at first. Surely you close a purse to keep money safe? But a tied purse is a purse that nothing more can enter. The Open Purse says the opposite: the way in stays open, facing the door, ready for whatever is coming. Money that flows is not held tightly.
Signs money is starting to move
The first signs of a money working are usually practical and small:
- A late payment finally arrives.
- Something gets approved that had been waiting.
- An unexpected refund or return turns up.
- Extra work or a new client appears.
- Expenses that kept draining you ease or stop.
How to keep the flow open
A money working opens the channel; you help it by keeping your side of the channel moving. Send the invoices. Follow up on what you are owed. Apply for the better rate, the raise, the grant. Say yes to the work that comes. And be careful with money that arrives, without clutching it so tightly that you stop giving and receiving at all.
A money working is also not financial advice, and it never replaces good decisions. It works beside sensible choices, not instead of them.
