Commitment Spell Ritual: How The Standing Key Is Cast

A commitment spell is not a love spell. The feeling is already there. This working gives the thing that has no name a place to stand, and then closes the question.

What a commitment spell is, and why it is not a love spell

The most common mistake in this corner of the grimoire is buying a love working when what you actually need is a commitment spell. They do different jobs and one does not substitute for the other.

A love working creates or deepens feeling. A commitment working assumes the feeling already exists and addresses something else entirely: the absence of a name for it. Nobody in this situation is short of warmth. They are short of a definition, and warmth poured onto an undefined thing simply makes a warmer undefined thing.

The Standing Key is built for the relationship that has stopped moving while remaining perfectly pleasant.

Who orders the Standing Key

  • Someone two years into something that still has no name.
  • Someone whose person is affectionate, present, reliable and entirely unwilling to say what this is.
  • Someone who has been told "why do we need a label" often enough to have stopped asking.
  • Someone who does not want more feeling. They want a decision.

If the feeling genuinely is not there, this working will not manufacture it and your record will say so. If the person pulls away when things get close, the Avoidant to Obsessed working addresses the fear of closeness instead, which is a different problem.

How the Standing Key is cast, step by step

  1. Both names go on one paper and the working plate is set on top of it. One paper, because this is a working about a single thing rather than two people being paired.
  2. An old key is stood upright in rock salt. Upright is the working. A key lying flat is a key waiting to be picked up; a key standing holds its own position without anybody holding it, which is precisely what is being asked for.
  3. A navy candle is lit beside it. Navy rather than red: this working wants steadiness, not heat. Red here produces intensity without definition, which is the problem you already have.
  4. The key is taken up and turned once in a small lock. One turn. That turn is the whole working: a question asked for the last time and answered.
  5. The lock is closed and the key stays with it on the same plate. They are not separated afterwards.

Every item on the altar, and why it is there

  • The old key. Old rather than new, because what is being defined already exists and has a history.
  • The rock salt. The ground the key stands in, holding the position steady while the working is carried.
  • The navy candle. Steadiness and depth. The absence of red is deliberate and it is the detail that makes this working what it is.
  • The small lock. The answer. A key alone is possibility; a key in a lock is a decision.
  • Both names on one paper. The thing being named sits underneath the whole altar.

The seal, and what closing the lock means

The seal is the closed lock with its key beside it.

Everything in this rite has been building toward one small mechanical act, and the seal is that act completed. The question that has been asked over and over, in different words, at different hours, is asked once more properly and then closed.

Key and lock stay together. A lock sealed without its key would be a working about being shut in, which is not what anybody wants from this. The two stay on the plate: a question that no longer needs asking, and the means to answer it still present.

What your written ritual record contains

  • The intention. Your words, and what I read the standstill to be, which is frequently not fear of you.
  • The standing. Whether the key stood easily in the salt, and how many attempts it took. This is one of the most-quoted sections in the whole grimoire.
  • The turn. What was said at the turning, and how the navy flame behaved when the lock closed.
  • The seal. Key and lock together, and what that means in your particular relationship.
  • What moves first. For a commitment working the first sign is almost never a conversation about the relationship, and the record explains what it is instead.
  • Your part. One thing, free, and never a condition of the outcome.

What I need from you before I begin

Your first name, their first name, how long this has been going on, and what has actually been said about it, in your own words. That last part matters more than the rest. There is a large difference between somebody who has refused to define it and somebody who has never been asked, and the working is set differently for each.

If you already know the answer and want confirmation rather than a working, say that; it is an honest thing to want and I will say so in the record.

The strengths, and what changes between them

  • Standard Casting — one night: one standing, one turn, one record.
  • 3x Casting — the key is stood on three nights before the turn is made, which suits a standstill measured in years.
  • 7x Casting — seven nights, with the record written as the standing steadies.
  • Fast, Extreme and Ultimate — longer carriage, fuller record.

For a long standstill the extra nights do real work, because the standing is the part that has been failing rather than the turning.

What people notice in the days after

The first sign is rarely a conversation about the relationship. It is a future tense. They mention something months away with you in it, casually, without noticing they have done it. That is the marker, and almost everyone misses it.

The second is practical: a key, a drawer, a plan involving both names, an introduction that had not happened before.

The conversation itself, when it comes, is usually shorter and easier than the one you have been rehearsing. People in this position rehearse a difficult version for months and then get a five-minute one.

Frequently asked questions

Will a commitment spell make someone propose?

It works on definition rather than on a specific event. For many people that turns out to be a conversation rather than a ring. If a proposal is specifically what you are after, say so and I will tell you honestly what the working reads like for your situation.

How is this different from a love spell?

A love working creates or deepens feeling. This one assumes the feeling is there and addresses the missing name for it. Buying the wrong one of the two is the commonest mistake people make here.

We have only been together a few months. Is it too early?

Possibly, and your record will say so plainly rather than taking your money and agreeing with you. The Standing Key does best where something real has been running long enough to have a shape.

What if they say they never want to commit to anyone?

Then tell me that, because it changes what the working can honestly reach for. I would rather write you a record that says the standing did not hold than one that flatters you.

Why a navy candle instead of red?

Red brings heat, and heat without definition is the exact problem this working exists to solve. Navy is steadiness and depth, which is what a decision needs.

What do I receive afterwards?

A full written record sent to your email once the working is done, normally the same day: the standing, the turn, the seal, what moves first, and one small thing you can do yourself.
