What a money spell is, and why the purse stays open

Most money spells are built around holding: a jar sealed, a note folded, a pouch tied tight and hidden. The Open Purse is built the other way round, and the reason is worth reading before you order anything from anybody.

Money is a flow, not a pile. Almost nobody who writes to me about money has a storage problem. They have an inflow problem: work that does not convert, invoices that go slow, opportunities that come close and pass. A tied purse addresses the wrong half of that entirely.

So this working unblocks the direction rather than guarding a heap. The purse is never tied.

Who orders the Open Purse

• Someone working hard with nothing arriving from it.
• Someone whose money comes in and leaves the same week, every week, with no particular disaster attached.

How the Open Purse is cast, step by step

1. Three coins are chosen and go into a small cloth pouch. Three because the working names three jobs: one coin for what comes in, one for what stays, one for what is spent well. A money working that only asks for arrival tends to bring money that does not stop.
2. Bay leaves are laid in with them. Bay is steadiness; it is what keeps this working from producing one windfall and nothing afterwards.
3. Ground cinnamon goes in last, for speed.
4. The pouch is set with its open mouth facing the door. Direction is the working. A purse turned away from the door is a purse facing the wall.
5. A green candle is lit behind the pouch so that the light pushes toward the opening rather than away from it. Green here is the money colour proper, unlike in the job working where green means passage.

• The bay leaves. Steadiness. Without them this becomes a windfall working and windfalls do not fix inflow.
• The cinnamon. Speed, as always.
• The green candle. Placed behind rather than in front, which is the detail most home attempts get backwards.
• The open mouth. The seal, and the whole argument of the working.

The seal, and why nothing is tied

The seal of the Open Purse is the untied mouth.

That is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly: this working closes by refusing to close. The pouch is left open, facing the door, and the candle is allowed to burn out behind it. There is no knot, no wax and no lid.

It also means this is a working that keeps speaking after the evening ends, and it is one of the few I am happy to see re-ordered seasonally rather than at a higher strength.

What I need from you before I begin

Your first name, your date of birth if you have it, and the money situation in your own words. A figure helps but is not required. What helps most is telling me whether the problem is arrival or retention, because those are two different workings inside the same rite.

Money workings are among the most commonly re-ordered at the same strength rather than escalated, and that is a perfectly sound way to use them.

What people notice in the days after

First, something stuck moves. An invoice that had been sitting is paid, a refund lands, a payment that kept slipping arrives. It is usually money you were already owed rather than new money, and people discount it for that reason. Do not.

Second, an offer arrives from a direction outside your plan. Open Purse workings are known for this. The money rarely comes from the source you were pushing on.

Third, and later, the pattern changes rather than a single event happening. That is the part worth having and it is the part that takes the longest.
