Who the Honey Jar Sweetening Spell is for

How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Upturned Honey. A small jar is half filled with honey and a paper carrying their name and yours is laid on top. The caster tastes the honey once from the spoon and speaks one line, the lid is closed, and the jar is turned over to stand on its lid, so the honey sinks onto the names slowly, from above. The jar is never set upright again; at each sitting a candle is lit beside it.
- The folk rootThis working comes from the honey jar of Southern hoodoo, where a jar of honey is kept to sweeten a boss, an elder or a spouse. I keep its old purpose and add nothing foreign to it.
- Half a jar of honeyI take a small, ordinary glass jar and fill it halfway with honey. Only half, because the honey needs room to travel once the jar is turned.
- The wish paperOn a paper I write the name of the person whose manner you want softened, then your name and date of birth beneath it, and one line from your order: that they soften toward you. I fold it once through the middle and lay it on top of the honey, not pushed into it.
- One taste, one lineWith a sweet spoon I taste the honey once and speak the line, in your wording: as this honey is sweet to me, so may they be sweet to you. It is said once only.
- Lid on, jar turnedThe lid is screwed down tight and the jar is turned over to stand on its lid on my sweetening plate. From that moment the honey begins to sink onto the names from above, by its own weight, at its own pace.
- The candle beside itA white or pink candle is lit next to the jar, never on the lid. At each later sitting a fresh candle is lit in the same place beside it.
- Never set uprightThe seal is the upturned jar itself. It is not opened, not shaken and never stood the right way up again, so the honey keeps settling onto the paper. Your written record is sent by email.
