How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Turned Coin. A single coin is tossed once over an orange candle beside a bay leaf and a wish paper, and left exactly as it lands. It is never turned again: the untouched coin is the seal.
- Reading your wishI read the wish you wrote, whether it is one clear matter or a general turn of fortune. That wish is copied word for word onto a wish paper.
- Your wish paperYour full name and date of birth are written beneath the wish on the same paper. It lies flat on the table as the ground the coin will fall on.
- The orange candleAn orange candle is lit above the paper. Orange is the colour of good fortune, quick changes and the warmth of things going right.
- The bay leafA bay leaf is laid beside the wish paper. Bay is the crowning leaf of victory, and it stands with your wish while the coin is thrown.
- Speaking before the tossHolding the single coin, I speak your name and your wish aloud over the flame. Everything I say comes from your own words.
- One toss onlyThe coin is tossed once over the candle. It is never tossed a second time for a better answer. However it lands, that is where your luck turns.
- The untouched coinThe coin is left exactly as it fell and is never turned again. That untouched coin is the seal. Your written record tells you how it landed and what the flame did.
