For new friendships when you feel alone, or for a friendship that has cooled or been hurt. It works on sharing, never on pulling anyone towards you.

How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Shared Foam. Turkish coffee is made in a single pot and poured into two cups, the foam spooned evenly between them so no one receives less, with a piece of Turkish delight beside each cup, over two small papers. When the coffee is finished the grounds of both cups are tipped onto one saucer and left to dry together, unread: a cup of coffee, the saying goes, is remembered for forty years.
- Two small papersOn one paper I write your name and date of birth. On the second I write your friend's name if this is for a friendship that has cooled, or the qualities you are looking for in a new friend, using your own words.
- One pot of coffeeI brew Turkish coffee in a single pot. There is an old saying that one cup of coffee is remembered for forty years, and this working rests on that memory of shared hospitality.
- The foam, shared evenlyBefore pouring, I spoon the foam into the two cups in equal measure. A guest is never served coffee without foam, and no one here receives less than the other.
- Cups upon the papersThe coffee is poured into both cups and each cup is set upon one of the papers on my sweetening plate. A piece of Turkish delight is placed beside each, a sweet word for each side.
- The candle betweenA white candle is lit between the two cups, and your wish for the friendship is spoken aloud once, as you wrote it. The coffee is finished slowly, the way it would be between friends.
- One saucer for bothThe seal is the grounds of both cups tipped onto one saucer and left to dry together, unstirred and unread. This is remembrance, not fortune telling, and the two shares leave a single trace.
