How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Water of Seven Doors. A spoonful of water from seven different sources meets in one bowl over a pinch of salt. Your name paper is wiped with it from end to end, in one direction only, by the light of a white candle, and the water is carried away and poured out far from the house.
- Reading your orderI read your name, your date of birth and what keeps repeating for you. I do not ask who is to blame, and the working does not either.
- Gathering the seven watersA spoonful of water from seven different sources is brought to one bowl with a wooden spoon, each source named aloud as it goes in.
- Salt and flameA pinch of salt goes to the bottom of the bowl and a white candle is lit beside it.
- Wiping the nameA clean white cloth is dipped in the water and your name paper is wiped from one end to the other, in one direction only. Never back and forth: what is being loosened is not to be rubbed back in.
- Drying on whiteThe paper is left to dry on clean white cloth while the candle burns.
- The sealThe water is carried away from the house and poured out, and I walk back without looking behind me. The seal is the road left behind.
