Why an egg
The egg cleansing is found in many old traditions, from the limpia of Latin American healers to the grandmothers of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. The idea is always the same. An egg is whole, closed and full of life. Passed over a person, it draws heaviness into itself, the way a sponge draws water. Whatever it takes, it keeps.
How the Salt and the Egg is worked
The table holds four things: a fresh egg, rock salt, sage and a white candle. The white candle is lit first, for a clean light with nothing in it but clarity.
The egg is passed over you slowly, from the crown down, along the shoulders and arms, down the length of the body, with the rock salt and sage close by. The salt draws, the sage clears the air, and the egg gathers the weight onto itself.
Then comes the part that matters most. The egg is carried far from the home and given to running water. It is never thrown away in the house, never kept, never opened on the kitchen table. Running water takes what the egg holds and does not bring it back. That is the seal.
Why nothing is added
A cleansing is a subtraction. It does not bring in luck, love or money. It makes room for them. This is why I often suggest a cleansing before another working rather than instead of it. A luck working poured over heaviness struggles; the same working over a cleared life has space to move.
What the Salt and the Egg never does is send anything back. The weight is not returned to anyone, not aimed at whoever may have caused it. It simply leaves.
