How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Woven Braid. Three strips of cloth are braided in a single sitting: one carrying their name, one carrying yours and one for what lies between you. The end is closed with salt and a loop rather than a knot, and the braid is hung on the inside of a door.
- Reading your orderI read your name, your date of birth, their name and how things stand between you: who writes first, how long the silences are.
- Three stripsThree strips of cloth are cut. One carries their name, one carries yours, and the third is left bare. That one is what lies between you. A braid cannot be made of two.
- The colourThe cloth is never red. For this working I choose an earth, green or deep blue tone, because what is wanted here is steadiness of attention and not heat.
- Braiding in one sittingThe braid is woven from top to bottom without stopping. At each crossing their name is said once. Each crossing is one return of their attention to you.
- Salt at the endThe end is touched with salt and closed with a loop, not a knot. A loop holds, and it does not force.
- The sealThe braid is hung on the inside of a door and not handled again. The seal is the loop.
