How your ritual is made personal
This working is called The Rose Branch Note. Your name and three kind sentences you have never said to yourself are written on a small paper, rolled and wound once with red ribbon onto a rose branch beside a pink candle, as wishes are hung on the rose tree on Hidrellez night. The paper stays on the branch until the rose drops its first petal, and that petal is folded into the paper and kept.
- Hidrellez nightOn Hidrellez, the night of the fifth to the sixth of May across Anatolia and the Balkans, wishes are written on paper and hung on a rose tree. In this working the wish is not for someone else. It is for you.
- Three kind sentencesFrom what you tell me in your order, I draw out three kind sentences you have never said to yourself. They come from your own words and your own situation, not from a list.
- Your name on the noteI write your name and date of birth on a small paper, and the three sentences beneath them. No other person's name appears on it.
- Rolled and woundThe paper is rolled and fastened to a rose branch with red ribbon, wound once around. It is a single wrap, not a bow, and my love plate sits at the foot of the rose.
- The pink candleA pink candle is lit beside the rose. I read the three sentences aloud, slowly, and then your wish in the words you chose.
- Waiting for the petalThe note stays on the branch until the rose drops its first petal. I do not hurry it, and I do not shake the branch.
- The first fallen petalThat first petal is folded into the paper and kept: the seal is what the rose gives on its own. The note is not burned, not thrown away and not read again. The record of the working then comes to you by email.
